#Sparktheconversation
This hashtag is encouraged to be used on social media platforms to raise awareness on mental health and suicide prevention. Having these tough conversations is how we are going to break the stigma surrounding mental health and suicide prevention, and be the voice of change. We encourage you to use this hashtag when wearing our apparel, sharing kind words, or advocating for change.
Starting the conversation
Respect boundaries
- It is important to understand that others might need time to open up and and that we all have different boundaries when it comes to what we are comfortable sharing when it comes to our mental health.
- Respecting their boundaries and letting them know you are available whenever they feel ready to talk is a great way to help normalize these types of conversations.
Listen
- Just as important as speaking up, being an active listener can help others feel heard when talking about difficult things. Using affirming words like "I see you", "I hear you" "it's okay to feel that way" or "I understand", can help create environments where people feel most comfortable opening up.
- Giving them your full attention is another way of listening actively.
Offer support
Sometimes we are not in the space to mentally be there for others when we are struggling mentally, as well. Let them know you want to help them and are unsure how. You can share any resources you may have like hotlines or local crisis center information. It is crucial to normalize seeking help, as sometimes therapists or counselors can provide additional support and tools to cope with certain situations. Navigate them to our website, or another platform they can access resources.
check on your friends
A simple message of, "just wanted to see how you are doing" can show ongoing concern and help others feel safe to express their emotions more regularly to others. Making a positive difference on someone else's mental health journey is easier than we think, and we have the power to save lives.
Sign Petitions Through Change.org
What Is a Petition?
- If you are unfamiliar with the term, a petition is a formal way to unite voices for a cause, showing decision-makers that people care about specific issues. It 's a written call for change, where each signature adds strength to the movement.
Why Sign Our Petition?
- Every signature shows that this issue matters and needs attention. Signing helps spread the word, drawing more people to the cause. There is power in numbers: Together, we create a powerful force that's hard to ignore. Petitions hold leaders and organizations accountable to address the community's needs.
What Impacts Can Signing Have?
Many petitions lead to updated laws or policies that better serve the public. Petitions can help channel resources and support to programs that need them. Signing brings people together, creating a unified voice. Your signature is more than a name- it's a step toward change. It's free to sign and takes less than 5 minutes. Survivors
You are not alone, and you are meant to be here. At Save A Mind, we understand the impact an attempt can have on one's life and those around them. The AFSP website has resources for those living after an attempt, and AFSP stands for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. We will continue to uphold our values and advocate for those who are survivors or have lived experiences. Sharing your story has the power to spark hope for those struggling, inspire healing and connect you to communities where you are valued. Signing up for our email list will notify you about when our first event will be. Check out the AFSP website for additional valuable resources for survivors.
Honoring Those We've Lost
Here at Save A Mind, we honor those we've lost by remembering them, saying their name, and raising awareness. The grieving process can be intense and sometimes involve additional support. When you click on the link below, you will be directed to the ASFP website for support for loss of a Loved One. We are committed to raising awareness about the impacts of suicide and will continue to advocate for suicide prevention. Those we have lost are never forgotten. They are the reason we do what we do; They are voices we are speaking for. By wearing our apparel and choosing to have open conversations about mental health, we have the power to save a mind, and save a life.
Where Do Donations Go?
We donate 20% of our profits to The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. It is a voluntary health organization that advocates for research and education around suicide, based in New York City, with a public policy office based in Washington, D.C. The organization's mission is to save lives and bring hope to those affected by suicide. Our mission to raise awareness for mental health and suicide prevention through education, discussion and clothing, strongly aligns with theirs. Partnering with them, we can make a larger impact helping others. We encourage you to check out their resources and materials for additional support.
